My point is that getting a picture of a politician waving and turning into a neo-nazi propaganda is easy and stupid, especially when there is no context for it to refer to. As I explained to Frznagan:
'All art has context. Being unaware of that, or the context in which a piece of art was produced, does not mean that is isn’t there and your appreciation of say, the works at your local uni’s art sale would be greatly enhanced if you were more aware of their context
With regards to your picture of Nancy, I submit that it is not so much ‘art’ as political satire, and satire is all about context. Satire requires the juxtaposition of an image with a suggestion that subverts a viewer’s original perception of said image to create tension between the context that the picture was taken in and the context in which it is being placed.
However, for this juxtaposition to effective the context in which it is being placed does need some currency; if I were make a picture of Dick Chaney [sic] that morphed into one of the Dali Lama, it would not necessarily be funny unless I created the correct, in this case highly ironic, context.
However, you make no suggestion of irony ¬– you are flat-out saying that Pelosi is a fascist/Nazi, but as this notion has no foundation in reality, no context, it simply doesn’t work, as opposed to those pictures of Bush which do work given the extensive and not unwarranted ruminations on the fascist tendencies of him and his administration'
Same goes for Obama. There is no indication that he is in anyway a fascist. For Sarah and the Republicans however, the evidence is strongly in favour of the notion; read Umberto Eco’s ‘Eternal Fascism: Fourteen Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt’ and ’14 Characteristics of Fascism’ by Lawrence Britt, both but a Google away.
Finally, you must admit that the picture of Palin looks far more fascistic than the one of Obama – dig that half a swastika!
